If you arrive at the Renaissance Cleveland hotel in December without Christmas spirit, after spending a weekend at this stunning hotel, you can’t help but leave with a spirit that is brimming with festivity.
As we drove up to the hotel in the evening on Friday, December 2, we were in awe at the beauty of the building façade and the brightly lit tower overshadowing the hotel. Steeped in history and located at 24 Public Square, it is a stunning location. The Renaissance Cleveland Hotel was built in 1918 and its architecture is reminiscent of the history it reflects.
At the Renaissance hotel upon check-in, the lobby and bar were in full swing of a very happening festive scene as our family of four arrived with luggage in tow. Timothy at the front desk welcomed us with a big smile and took the time to answer our questions and to make recommendations about activities for our family to enjoy. The lobby was bustling with people dressed in Christmas attire and costumes.
Musicians were performing live Christmas music in the lounge adjacent to the lobby, and a gingerbread house village was set up as part of the décor. The icing on the cake was a leg lamp gracing the reservation desk, a nod to The Christmas Story movie, which was filmed mainly in Cleveland Ohio. The Renaissance Cleveland is the affiliated hotel with A Christmas Story run which is what brought us to Cleveland as my daughter and I were running in this race the next day. So the hotel was full of festive runners looking to have an exciting and fun Christmas weekend away.
Adjacent to the hotel is Cleveland’s Public Square with an outdoor skating rink, horse drawn carriage rides and beautiful Christmas lights. Every night we sat at the window and enjoyed the sights from room. It was breathtaking. During the day we could see a hint of Lake Erie in the distance from our room window.
On Saturday after the race, we explored the Tower City Center’s shopping boutiques, which are connected to the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. In the evening, my husband and daughter headed for the hotel pool, while my son and I headed to the outdoor skating rink in Public Square. Skate rentals were available and it was heartwarming to see all of the people out enjoying this rink. It felt like a scene from a Christmas movie. We all came back to the hotel in the evening and ordered room service which was a great way to cap off an excellent day.
We had an excellent family vacation at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. My husband commented that it was the nicest room that we have ever stayed in at a hotel. Thank you Renaissance Cleveland, for the wonderful stay and for being a memory-making hotel for our family this holiday season.
